The ingredients you’ll need

Ingredients including butter, flour, sugar, cocoa powder, eggs, vanilla, chocolate chips, salt, and baking powder.
  • Unsalted Butter: You can’t make brown butter brownies without browning the butter first! This step brings out a rich, nutty flavor that takes these brownies to the next level. For me, it’s what makes them truly special.
  • Granulated Sugar: If you want those perfect sweet, fudgy brownies, granulated sugar is a must. It adds sweetness and helps create that chewy texture we all love. I wouldn’t skip this one!
  • Brown Sugar: Maybe you’ve noticed that some of the best brownies have a deeper flavor. Brown sugar adds a rich, caramel-like taste and extra moisture, making your brownies even more indulgent.
  • Eggs: Eggs are key for binding everything together and giving your brownies that soft, fudgy texture.
  • Vanilla Extract: For me, a dash of pure vanilla extract is a game-changer. It enhances the sweetness and brings all the flavors togethe.
  • All-Purpose Flour: Flour is the backbone of any brownie recipe. It helps structure the batter and gives your brownies that satisfying, chewy bite. You can’t skip it if you want that classic brownie texture.
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: If you’re after that deep chocolate flavor, unsweetened cocoa powder is your friend.
  • Salt: Salt might seem like a small thing, but it enhances all the flavors. Just a pinch.
  • Baking Powder: Baking powder is your secret to getting those perfect, light, and fluffy brownies.
  • Chocolate Chips (Optional): Maybe you love extra chocolate in your brownies? Chocolate chips add little pockets of gooey goodness. They’re optional, but if you’re a chocolate lover like me, they’re a must!

These ingredients work together to create the perfect brown butter brownies, giving them a unique flavor and texture that will have everyone coming back for more!

How to Make Brown Butter Brownies

Making these brown butter brownies is super easy, and trust me, the flavor is so worth it! Follow these seven easy steps to get it done effortlessly.

Brown the Butter

Start by gently melting the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir it occasionally as it begins to foam, then turn golden brown and smell nutty (this is the best part!). Once browned, remove it from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

Mix the Sugars and Eggs

In a large bowl, thoroughly whisk the granulated sugar and brown sugar until well combined. Crack in your eggs and give it all a good whisk until it’s smooth and a little thicker. The sugar should be dissolved, and the mixture should look creamy.

Stir in the Vanilla

Pour in the vanilla extract and mix it in until well combined. This will bring out all those lovely warm flavors in your brownies!

Combine the Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder, mixing thoroughly. Sifting them will help prevent any clumps and make the brownies extra smooth.

Mix the Wet and Dry Ingredients

Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, blending gently. Stir gently with a spatula until everything is just combined. Refrain from overmixing; it’s perfectly normal for the batter to have a few lumps.

Add the Browned Butter

Pour the cooled brown butter into the batter and stir it all together. This is what gives the brownies that rich, nutty flavor we all love.

Bake and Enjoy!

Pour the batter into a greased or lined baking pan and smooth it out. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes. You’ll know they’re done when a toothpick comes out with just a few moist crumbs. Let them cool before slicing and then enjoy the fudgiest brownies ever!

What to Serve with Brown Butter Brownies

Looking for the perfect things to serve alongside your brown butter brownies? Here are a few ideas to elevate your dessert and offer a delightful balance of flavors and textures:

Vanilla Ice Cream

For me, there’s nothing better than a warm brownie paired with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream. The cold, smooth texture of the ice cream perfectly contrasts the fudgy richness of the brownies, creating a heavenly combination.

Fresh Berries

Add a refreshing touch with fresh raspberries, strawberries, or blueberries. The tartness of the berries cuts through the sweetness of the brownies and adds a burst of freshness that balances the richness.

Coffee or Espresso

If you’re enjoying your brownies with a cozy moment, a cup of coffee or espresso is the perfect companion. The deep, roasted flavor of coffee enhances the nutty brown butter flavor in the brownies, making each bite even more satisfying.

Whipped Cream or Chocolate Ganache

Top your brownies with a dollop of whipped cream for a light, airy contrast. Or, go all-in with a rich chocolate ganache to intensify the chocolatey goodness.

Both options are sure to elevate your brownie experience!

3 Unique Tips for Perfecting Your Brown Butter Brownies

1. Chill the Brown Butter Before Adding It to the Batter

While the rich, nutty flavor of brown butter is what makes these brownies stand out, the temperature of the butter matters.

Let the browned butter cool slightly before adding it to the batter.

If it’s too hot, it could cause the eggs to cook, leading to a grainy texture. Just a few minutes of cooling will help incorporate the butter smoothly and maintain the perfect fudgy texture.

2. Add a Touch of Sea Salt for Extra Flavor

Sprinkling a pinch of flaky sea salt on top of your brownies before baking (or right after they come out) gives them an irresistible contrast.

The salt enhances the chocolatey, caramel notes and really brings out the rich flavors of the brown butter, making each bite even more decadent.

3. Use Room Temperature Eggs for a Smoother Batter

This is an easy one to overlook, but using eggs at room temperature will help them blend into the batter more evenly. Cold eggs can cause the butter to seize up, leading to lumps in the batter.

Storing Tips for Brown Butter Brownies

  • Keep the brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. This keeps them soft and fudgy.
  • If you want them to last a little longer, refrigerate them for up to a week.
  • For longer storage, freeze brownies in an airtight container or plastic wrap for up to 3 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add nuts to my brown butter brownies?

Absolutely! Adding chopped nuts like walnuts, pecans, or almonds to your brown butter brownies can provide a great crunch and a lovely contrast to the rich, fudgy texture.

Why are my brown butter brownies too cakey?

If your brown butter brownies turn out cakey instead of fudgy, it could be due to overmixing the batter or overbaking them. Be sure to mix until the ingredients are just combined and keep an eye on the baking time.

How do I get my brown butter brownies extra fudgy?

To achieve the fudgiest brown butter brownies, make sure not to overbake them. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with a few moist crumbs, not clean, for that perfect fudgy texture.
